See the picture that should be below (and below again....) - beware - if you add a pic first it won't let you add any text...and that is important on a blog dontchathink??
Not what I expected on a rainy Thursday night in Halesowen...2 bands given the chance to play through a fuller set than the usual 'here's your 20 minutes now bugger off and get your gear while you are at it'.....but the gaps left by the less frantically paced night were more than adequately filled by Katie - a local radio DJ providing an excellent across the board metal set - buffered by the fact that the bands were asked to bring their own fave tunes for the playlist - very cool.

As enthusiastic as puppies and louder than bombs...any band that can break 2 mics less than 2 minutes into a set and still have the sound engineer laughing his bollocks off is ok by me. Crowd surfing in a pub, singalongs and a beautifully managed 'stage' invasion that needed little prompting made for a truly enjoyable opening 30 minutes - a short set drawing on material from their first EP (Only Our Enemies Leave Roses) with dual vocals (clean, dirty, dirtier and screamo) from Jamie and Tom and a very technically competent band which was all chucked in the bin in favour of simply having the time of their lives. When the songs work these were a really good listen and for live performance were a joy to behold.
As an additional note - FT and fans - massive respect for hanging around to see Skull Fox.
Skull Fox - http://www.myspace.com/skullfox
A chance for Skull Fox to let rip and they played for almost 90 minutes to an ecstatic crowd as they pulled material out of the bag from their first and second EPs (...and thus is born and Bloodshed Rendered) as well as new material that sees Skull Fox in brilliant form heading off to the studio to record their first full length album later this year. The doorman - a dyed in the wool crusty punk cynic said 'that's the best band I've seen and heard in years' and that just about sums them up. The Midlands' brightest current metal band and biggest hope for its future. Just go and see them.
